History
Mitan, The Altruistic WorkaholicBorn oddly resembling her father against dominant genes, Mitan was a curious and optimistic person from an early age. She was one of the youngest to begin gathering and hunting trips with elders. One venture saw her narrowly escape a beast attack due to a sudden fainting spell. This was her first true experience with the Echo, despite many fainting spells before. Having saved Mitan, her mother taught her how to use her farming tools as weaponry before giving her the first set of daggers she earned, much to her cautious mage family’s worries. She was a well liked member of her village, even having a suitor from another gathering and arcane family. Mitan begged to be allowed to trade with her mother on ships even as it meant breaking the engagement, joining in her teens and getting a glimpse at the Eorzean city-states. Visiting Ul’dah, she was reminded of her father’s intent to make a name for them before he was sucked into the literal rubble. She decided, despite her family’s pleas, that she would hone her skills properly and become an adventurer to help raise their name beyond his legacy, though it was in truth to find a purpose within herself. After a long and tiresome journey over years on the star and beyond, Mitan began living more freely for herself. She symbolically cut off her hair and searched for places to relax in her downtime, discovering the many venues created by fellow adventurers. Though nervous and fully aware of her nature of not speaking up, she made friends easily in the comforts of each space she visited. An idea to spread the word came to mind and, though it was far from the first endeavor to accomplish that mission, she started a magazine with the help of her dearest friends. She now works hired jobs between writing and studying diligently in the Studium. Her free time was spent in the company of her husband (whose name she has [unofficially] hyphened with) before his untimely passing. Still, her sights are set on finding the spark of adventure that led her where she is, now that the imminent danger is less of a looming concern.
Beta, The Sweet Craftsman
Tandidi, The True BeginningTandidi Tandi was an Ul'dahn-raised (half Plains and Dunes) storehouse worker and daughter to a well to do merchant lineage, transporting items to be shipped off about the star from the Bazaars of Thanalan. Ever a beautiful woman with a blunt way of speaking, she was equal parts flirtatious and brash, making up for her looks with an abrasive nature. She learned to use daggers against her mother's wishes and, after saving a ship captain from an attack, was invited to help with transport to the South Sea Isles. While there, she came into contact with Opom who made enough of an impression to rouse an invite to the foreign market of Ul'dah. When he grew to love the city-state and her, he would soon bond to her and produce their daughter. Tandidi took great care in bestowing the name Mimitan, though she would rarely use the name outside of traditional needs. Some time after the birth, Opom returned to Ul’dah without them, vowing that he was going to make a name for their family. He would visit home and send letters about his mining but abruptly stopped. To safely return to trades out of fear of her husband's dealings in Thanalan, she consumed a fantasia to appear as a Plainsfolk. He was eventually believed to be dead before the closing of the Sandgate Mines, though recent findings proved this was not the case.Saving a young Mitan from a beast attack during one of her increasingly frequent fainting incidents whilst on a gathering venture. Tandidi took it upon herself to teach her daughter proper hunting and encouraged her paternal grandfather to allow her to train as a catapultist. This lead to Mitan's, having chosen the name Pontan and foregoing her gendered naming, eventual trade ship expeditions and later adventuring, to which she joined as her retainer to watch from a distance. In her years keeping close to her child, the memory of her husband was present in her mind. He was recently found to have studied in Old Sharlayan and is working as a geological gleaner. Tandidi and Opom have sense made speedy progress in returning to normalcy.Opom, The Fragile GleanerThough born in the South Sea Isles as the second eldest and first son of prestigious magus and farming families, Opom was ever the humble type. He wove between gathering and practicing apothecary work, becoming a living library of knowledge on local flora and fauna. His love of all things botany led to him being chosen to pitch the sale of their wares, shy as he is in all irony. This job is how he soon met Tandidi, impressing both her and the captain enough to be invited to sell in the city-states. On their long trip, he grew closer to her and, upon making his first pay in the Ul'dahn markets, bought a band from the goldsmiths to propose. Miraculously, she accepted, and they bonded soon after, wasting little time in bearing their daughter Mimitan.Opom was desperate to make a decent living and enamoured with the sights of the city-state that sealed their fates. He made his final trade route a single trip, signing on for a more lucrative spot mining gems and the like. However, breaking up a fight led him to be noticed by a member of the Brass Blades who dripped honeyed words of being a Sultansworn with time into his innocent ears. This was hidden from his wife after her family, who housed him at the time, explained the dangers. With the rise in bribery, injuries, and missing cargo, he stayed in the Hourglass inn until an awful event involving a merchant's murder. From Opom's view, he was approached to assist in the exodus of Sharlayan at this time. He shared his knowledge of flora and fauna with the researchers narrowing the Arboretum and was invited to join them at the Studium to share this information, leading to an anonymous backing for his education that would allow his current career as a gleaner. On the outside, however, a close eye in the mines sought to get him to safety but faking his passing as he was the "least fit to survive in Thanalan." In either case, he was unable (or very afraid, rather) to return to his family for 15 years, writing letters never truly sent until his daughter found him and reconciled. His family has welcomed his return, and he and his wife have begun repairing their marriage.
Zolinlin and RolgaBorn into a family of gatherers and engineers as their eldest, Rolga was always a serious and focused boy in his youth, well aware he was being prepared to take on the family career. He kept few friends but the most prominent was, of course, Zolinlin. Although she was the youngest in a family of arcanists and apothecaries, she was sought after by suitors and academics alike for her skill in alchemical and magical healing, considering an opportunity to study further abroad. She was cornered on one evening by a pursurer and rescued by Rolga and her dear friend Lenlenni, however Rolga would be struck with a cast aimed for them. This injury lead to a discoloration in his eye and an aetheric lenience to earth but, most importantly, the dormant love for the two began to blossom.
They would eventually marry and share six children, their eldest son Rolga among them, serving as their village catapult management and chirurgeon, as well as major figures in the council. They raised their children and grandchildren to respect the land and keep their dreams and morals fed, as well as many skills and lessons that would make them the island's (and the star's) most notable people.Mamamu and KalbiMamamu was the daughter of a long line of merchants and landowners that held storehouses for said merchants, a part of the middle-class Ul'dahn families in line to the throne. Upon coming of age, she would follow her father into La Noscea where she would meet a culinarian, Kalbi. The two would write letters for a year before she would run off to marry him. She was able to convince her parents of the benefits of the marriage, namely her taking the bulk of the business upon herself with help of cousins. Once they had their daughter, he took on the larger share of housework, only able to lend a hand to the business after Tandidi was old enough to mind herself and more so after her own marriage. They only briefly resumed homemaking in the days their son-in-law required housing, though that was ended abruptly at some time.
During the Calamity, many in their family had passed and the damage caused from the meteors and monsters would cripple the business. However, as new matriarch to her family, she and her cousins would spend a good bit of their ancestral wealth to assist the repairs in Thanalan, even moving out of the city to more closely monitor the growth of the desert markets. Whether they will return to the city is unknown.
